“Wrestling For Gold” Coordination Effort Initiated For American Wrestlers Participating In Future World Police And Fire Games
An effort has begun in the United States to coordinate the collective efforts of Men’s and Women’s wrestling at upcoming World Police and Fire Games (WPFG).
Steve “Sid” Caesar, a five-time WPFG medalist, has initiated an effort to bring together wrestlers from the United States who plan to participate at the upcoming WPFG competitions in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2022, Winnipeg, Canada, in 2023, and Birmingham Alabama, in 2025.
Only slightly smaller in athletic participation than the Summer Olympic Games, The World Police and Fire Games is a biennial Olympic-style athletic event, open to active and retired law enforcement and fire service personnel throughout the world. WPFG competitions regularly attracts approximately 10,000 entrants. The WPFG Federation is an arm of the California Police Athletic Federation (CPAF), an American non-profit organization.
The intent of these collaborative efforts include uniting the WPFG wrestlers throughout the country, organizing training and practice efforts in preparation for the WPFG competition, and attracting administrative, logistical, and coaching experts to build the capacity of the WPFG Wrestling Team from across the United States.
WPFG Director Bob Powles has pledged support to the Wrestling For Gold initiative, sighting the positive aspects of outreach to past, current, and future WPFG athletes, increased participation of athletes at future WPFG competitions, and promotion of the goals of the WFPG.
Reflecting on the timing of this collaborative effort, Caesar shared, “With increasing interest in the Olympic styles of wrestling in the United States, for both men and women, there has never been a better time to coordinate support and assistance to Police Officers and Firefighters who want to represent their country in international wrestling competitions at these high-profile upcoming events.”
Caesar, who is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his participation in the 1995 WPFG, in Melbourne, Australia, where he won a Silver Medal in Greco Roman Wrestling and a Bronze Medal in Freestyle Wrestling, has great interest in giving back to the wrestling community in the United States and the WPFG international efforts.
A certified High Performance Leader-Coach with USA Wrestling, holding Mat Officiating and Match Pairing classifications, Caesar also holds coaching and officiating certifications in lacrosse and Australian Rules Football.
Caesar has also been active in the Olympic movement, serving in three Olympic Games, including the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games, where he served as the Wrestling Field of Play Manager. Caesar had responsibilities for the operational aspects of the Men’s and Women’s Olympic wrestling tournament competition, leading a multinational team of 25 Olympic Games Makers, providing safety, security, and medical support to the Wrestling Field of Play.
Caesar serves as the President of the American Gold Sports Alliance (AGSA), a USA not-for-profit corporation, the organizers of the Wrestling For Gold initiative. Caesar and AGSA have organized a team of sports management experts to initiate this Wrestling For Gold effort, to support the future participants of the upcoming WPFG competitions.
